Abstract

Purpose : This study aimed to investigate the difference in appearance satisfaction, self-esteem, and psychological well-being according to general characteristics, and the influence of appearance satisfaction and self-esteem on psychological well-being.

Methods : Participants were 255 nursing students from a university in K-do. The data for the study were collected from July 10 to July 13, 2020. Analyses including descriptive statistics, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis were used to examine the collected data with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program.

Results : According to this study¡¯s results, the level of appearance satisfaction, self-esteem, psychological well-being according to general characteristics varied significantly by economic status, academic achievement, family relationship, and academic major satisfaction. There is a positive correlation between appearance satisfaction, self-esteem, and psychological well-being among nursing students, and the variables that influence psychological well-being were self-esteem and academic major satisfaction.

Conclusion : Therefore, universities need to provide on-campus programs that could increase students¡¯ level of self-esteem and academic major satisfaction consistently throughout semesters to promote the psychological well-being of nursing students.
